In light of the apparent growth of a COVID-19 cluster in Sydney's Northern Beaches over the past 24 hours, our management team convened this morning to discuss the current situation. Due to the unknown size and spread of the cluster at this time, the following decisions have been made:

  • Phase 2 of the Holding Hands COVID-19 Action Plan has now been engaged. Contact Visits scheduled in Northern Beaches locations have now been moved to Online Contact Visits.

  • Families who live in Sydney's Northern Beaches or families where either parent works in or has recently visited the Northern Beaches area should alert the Service immediately so that alternate contact arrangements can be made.

  • Parents or families that live, work or have visited the Northern Beaches in recent days will not be allowed to recommence face-to-face contact visits until they have provided a negative COVID-19 test result from an authorised NSW Health testing facility.

  • Management is monitoring a positive COVID-19 case in Cronulla.


Our management team will continue to monitor this situation as it progresses and will be in contact with our families as changes are required. We want to ensure our families that Holding Hands Family Services remains committed to providing child focused Contact Visits to all of our families where it is safe and practical to do so.

The NSW Government has recently published advice that strongly recommends wearing a mask in high-risk settings to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In light of this latest advice from NSW Health, Holding Hands Family Services strongly recommends the following to all families currently in the service:

  • That masks be carried by all parents for both them and their child for use in any indoor locations utilised throughout visits.

  • Masks should also be carried for use in crowded outdoor locations.

Our management team continue to closely monitor reports of COVID-19 case locations in the Greater Sydney, Wollongong, Central Coast and Newcastle areas. Where a known COVID-19 case location is reported by NSW Health:

  • Families who have contact visits in or near a reported COVID-19 case location will have their visit location changed to an alternate location deemed reasonable by the Service. 

  • Families who live in or adjacent to a known COVID-19 case location will have their visits changed to Online Contact Visits for a minimum period of 14 days or as otherwise defined by NSW Health.

  • Family members who live in or adjacent to a known COVID-19 case location must provide proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test prior to recommencing face-to-face contact visits. 

Further, we ask that any family member who takes a COVID-19 test immediately report that to the service that they have done so. We ask that families remain flexible in their contact arrangements and exercise caution if experiencing known COVID-19 symptoms.

Due to the continued success of the re-introduction of face-to-face visits and the easing of restrictions by the State and Federal Governments, the decision has been made to instate Phase 3 of our COVID19 Action Plan.
