When it comes to contact visits, one of the simplest yet most powerful tools is conversation. Sometimes, though, parents and children need a little help finding the right words to get started.

That’s where kids’ conversation starter cards come in. These cards are designed with questions that invite children to share about themselves, their feelings, and their world. They’re not tests or lessons—they’re invitations to talk, listen, and laugh together.

Children thrive when they feel heard. Having a parent take genuine interest in their thoughts shows them that their voice matters. These conversations build trust, encourage curiosity, and help children feel safe to share not just the easy stuff, but the tricky feelings too.

During contact visits, parents sometimes feel nervous or unsure what to say. Children can feel the same way. Conversation cards take away the pressure. Each card offers a gentle prompt, making it easier to begin and to keep talking flowing in a natural, playful way.

Instead of worrying about “What do I say next?” the parent and child can simply turn over a card and let the question guide them.

From “What makes you laugh the most?” to “What would you invent if you could?” these cards spark giggles and daydreams. They also give parents a window into what excites, worries, or delights their child in that moment of life.

The most important part is not the answer, but the way the parent listens—with eyes, ears, and heart.

One dad we know brought a set of conversation cards along to a visit. His daughter picked one that asked about a favorite memory. She began talking about a holiday trip they had taken together years before. Her face lit up as she remembered small details, and her dad leaned in to listen closely. That one card unlocked a story that became the center of their whole visit - a moment of connection that will stay with both of them.

💛 Tools like these remind us that what children want most is simple: to be seen, heard, and valued. Sometimes, all it takes is a little card to open a big door.
