When parents ask us about visit locations, we always think about spaces that feel safe, welcoming, and fun for children. A good location makes all the difference – it helps children relax, play, and connect with their parent in ways that feel natural. One of our favourites? Lions Park in Woy Woy.

Lions Park sits right on the waterfront, and it’s not unusual for pelicans to wander close by. Children love pointing them out, watching them float, or giggling when they flap across the water.
That little bit of magic helps take the edge off what can sometimes feel like a big day.

This park is also a good fit for families who need safe and simple transitions. It has the space to support separate meeting points for both parents, with staggered arrival times so children don’t feel caught in the middle.
These small but important details help keep parents calm – and when parents are calm, children feel secure.

For school-age children, the park has plenty of space for running, kicking a ball, or sharing a game of frisbee. Wide open lawns give children room to stretch out - and for many, that physical play is exactly what helps them settle into the visit and enjoy their time.

There are shaded areas that make it easy to lay out a picnic blanket, share some snacks, and have quieter conversations. These small rituals - unpacking a lunch, pouring a drink, sitting together - can feel comforting and ordinary, which is just what children need in times of change.

One special feature of Lions Park is the opportunity for fishing. For an organised visiting parent, bringing a small rod and some bait can turn into a beautiful shared activity. Fishing slows things down. It creates time for gentle conversations, for listening, and for simply being together. Parents often tell us that these are the moments their children remember most.
Contact Worker Debbie joins the #alwayschildfocused podcast again to talk about what makes Lions Park such a supportive visit space. From pelican-watching to ball games to fishing, she explains how the right location can bring ease and joy to parent-child time. You can listen to the episode here
Every visit location matters – it’s not just about where you meet, but how that place supports your child’s sense of safety and fun. With the right space, contact visits can feel less like an arrangement and more like an afternoon together.
Warmly,
Jakki 💛
